be loved website

The best new salon in town, be loved, is run by Jill Stern and Heather Vandervert. The salon is located in a historic building just off Division on Atlantic. The original brick walls, exposed beams, and elevator door tables give a relaxed feel. The photos on the website are from a shoot I did for them back in May.

Boat Builder extraordinaire Eric Staggs, took the unfinished hull of a 1994 Clipper Craft and turned it into an albacore fishing machine. (You can read about the project start to finish here) Every boat must have a name, so before he set out on his first trip, this reflective decal was installed. Can you guess what his real job is?

Lakes Spokane Association Logo

"The Lake Spokane Association is dedicated to the protection and conservation of Lake Spokane, its shoreline communities, wildlife, fisheries, and recreational opportunities." Lake Spokane, also known as Long Lake, is a little piece of paradise close to Spokane that I am lucky enough to call home. On a daily basis we see various kinds of wildlife as well as enjoy all of the activities that lake life has to offer. This past July the lake was plagued with thousands of dead carp floating on the surface, which caused concern for homeowners and everyone else that spends time out here. The association wanted a logo that would attract younger members and get them interested. A website is also in the works and will be live soon.

T-shirts for Wittkopf

Wittkopf Landscape and Supply is celebrating almost 70 years of business. They wanted a shirt to show their pride in being "rooted in Spokane." The tree graphic starts on the front left side and wraps around to the back. A heart with a 'W' carved into the tree trunk was the finishing touch.

Wine Labels for Vintage Hill Cellars

Vintage HIll is a great little winery in the heart of downtown Spokane. The owners, Cody George and Brian Murphy, have done a great job of utilizing exposed beams and an old brick wall to create a great atmosphere. When they approached me to do a label for them, I couldn't get started fast enough!

The photo was taken at my in-laws house in Walla Walla, late one night as we were heading home. These are two of the 6 packards that reside there. Most of the others are refurbished and/or driveable, while this is referred to as the "Packard Graveyard."

This particular wine, The Vintage, is a blend of five grapes; Cab. Sauv., Cab. Franc, Merlot, Malbec & Petit Verdot. Cost is $15 and you can pick it up at 319 W. 2nd.

Election Maps

This project was miles away from my comfort zone. Silverlight? VB.Net? On a PC? Seriously? After a few cups of coffee, it was time to dig in.

BPro Inc., of Pierre, South Dakota, (which happens to be owned by my brother) developed software to display election results live online. This software is institutued in South Dakota, North Dakota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, and Sacramento County for 2010 primary and general elections. BPro built the infrastructure for the project, the interactive maps were my baby. The maps use shapefiles to show district, county and precinct boundaries depending on the project. The parameters for each map are pulled from the query string, passed to a stored procedure, and the results returned from a SQL server are matched up with the appropriate boundary.

Learning new software and a new language involved a lot of trial and error, but it was a great experience. Now my ability to work in various languages and with differing back end software is more broad, thanks to a tough client with demanding requirements.
